Hong Kong International Building and Hardware Fair

The 10th Hong Kong International Building and Hardware Fair has just come to the end gratefully. The exhibition has lasted for four days, from 28/10 – 31/10 and has successfully attracted tremendous amount of construction-related visitors and exhibitors worldwide. All participants have benefited from this opportunity to communicate and shared the latest technology that applicable in construction industry. 

We are pleased to be invited to hold a talk about the latest technological development in building construction industry  

Internet of Things for Building (IoTB) 
Being the major theme of our exhibition this time, IoTB has successfully drawn numerous attentions from the visitors.
IoTB is a well-designed system which supported by both software (online cloud platform, called BCDS) and hardware (RFID tags and readers).
With embedding RFID tags in pre-production stage, IoTB aims to link all building components such as precast concrete walls, floor panels, aluminum window frames etc. to BCDS online cloud platform. In order to enhance accuracy and convenience in construction management, IoTB allows users to record production data, monitoring the progress of the construction and obtaining real-time management information such as cost effective indicators, assembly report, etc.

GearForm™ 
GearForm™ is a cloud-based lifting gear record system that attractive to visitors who need to manage a huge number of lifting gears in construction site. This cloud platform which also provides an auto-alert on the expiry date of those safety forms.

Proximity Safety
Worker safety in construction site is another topic that visitors were interested in. Proximity Safety is an RF fencing technology for worker safety which adopt dual-frequency mode with two distinct frequency bands to provide extra safety level. Adopting Proximity Safety in construction site provides a multi-person, 360° all round and an adjustable protective fencing for both worker and machine.

We are 10 years old!

Time flies and we have grown from an incubatee to a worldwide leading RFID product designer and solution provider! To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong RFID (HK-RFID), 50 members and friends gathered at The Cityview Hotel at the company annual party.

The party was kicked off by Mike’s thank you speech to all current and previous employees for their contribution to HKRFID success. Everyone enjoyed the delicious buffet lunch and mini-games prepared by the HR department.

The party came to a climax when everyone received a red pocket from the lucky draw session! Lastly, the group photo had marked the end of the joyous day!

Mid-Autumn Elderly Visit

On 22^nd September, a team of volunteers from HK-RFID gathered together with other participants at the Lok Sin Tong Wong Chung Ming Secondary School, waiting to participate in the “Mid-Autumn Elderly Visit” held by the Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon. A total of 500 volunteers were enthusiastic to celebrate Mid-autumn festival with the elderly.

Divided into numerous groups, volunteers were assigned to visit different homes with gifts. Our team of volunteers was divided into two different groups assigned to visit a total of four homes. It was really such a pleasure to see the smiles on the elderly we visit when they greet us at the door and shared with us their stories

As a highlight of the event, moon cakes were delivered to each of them together with our blessings to celebrate Mid-autumn Festival which also is a festival of family reunion and gathering. We hope our gifts could show our care and respect to the elderly whom have poured their lifetime effort in building the city we live in now.

All the elderly we visited have enjoyed a happy weekend morning and fruitful Mid-autumn Festival celebration while our team of volunteers has gained a rewarding experience. All of them would love to participate and support future volunteering activities on behalf of Hong Kong RFID Ltd. As a caring company, HK-RFID grabs any opportunities to organize more volunteering activities as well as encourages our staff to fulfill the mission of contributing to the community together.

Joined with Axper to Provide Vision Intelligent for Counting People

Hong Kong RFID today announced an Exclusive Distributor appointment for Axper products. Axper Inc. and Hong Kong RFID will collaborate to provide Hong Kong region and China region client with Axper's advanced vision base people counting systems and analysis. Hong Kong RFID Ltd is very excited for such partnership. The latest camera model "Vision II" provides a highly automated and accurate people counting in a large 3D space.

Comparing with other people counting technologies such as infrared sensor or CCTV, this device is highly sensitive to people only, and it offers between 96% to 100% accuracy by using 2 lenses and proprietary sophisticated 3D calculation algorithm to distinguish situation such as shadows, carts, strollers, animals, hugging couples and any disturbances. Together with "Performance Plus", a cloud-base traffic analytic application, retailers can easily monitor all retail points around the globe, quickly assess each point of sales target, KPI, and potential business opportunities. It also allows the planning of clear and measurable strategies.

This people counting system accurately tracks on visitors and customers who walked in/out on it's own, it also works seamlessly with the corporates' POS, attendance system and assets management system. For example, when the shop keepers and the equipment or asset are tagged with HK RFID's 2.4GHz active transponders, the system can provide even more advanced intelligent applications, for example, for better arrangement of beauty consultant and equipment location in beauty salons.

Participation in HKSTPC Award Showcase Launching Ceremony 2012

On 1 March 2012, Hong Kong RFID (HK-RFID) was cordially invited to the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) Award Showcase Launching Ceremony held at the Hong Kong Science Park.

With the presence of honorable guests Mr Anthony Tan, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTPC, the showcase highlighted the recognitions and achievements gained by the incubation and partner companies.

Officiated by Mr Terence Chan, Assistant Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, the showcase was launched with the presence of representatives of award organizers and awardee companies, industry veterans and media members.

Exemplary technology and innovations in prominent local, regional and international awards or competitions were shared at the launch of the ceremony.

Being one of the successful incubates company, HK-RFID’s two awards were selected to be included in the showcase representing its achievements:

Joining the Mid-Autumn Festival Volunteer Program of Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon

On 10th September, a team of volunteers from our company joined the Mid-Autumn Festival Volunteer Program of the Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, visiting the elderlies and low-income families in Tai Kok Tsui and distributing mooncakes to them. The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon is a non-profit organization serving the public with quality and diversified educational, medical and social services to communities in Kowloon, Hong Kong.


Staff was divided into teams and visited different families in the community bringing them mooncakes that day. They enjoyed the activity and regarded it a meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival. Apart from business development, our company always encourages our staff to join different kinds of voluntary activities in order to give back to society.

It was not the first time for us to participate in voluntary work. Every year, we join different kinds of activities organized by charities not only to take an active role to care about our society, but to help developing a balanced lifestyle for our staff. It is our belief that only by the growth and development of us and our staff in every aspect would offer us a successful future. Hong Kong RFID Ltd. aims at continuing its business as a socially-responsible and sustainable company.

Winner of the Grand Award and Gold Award of Hong Kong ICT Awards 2011’s Best Innovation and Research Award

Hong Kong RFID Ltd. is awarded the Gold Award of the category "Best Innovation and Research (Postgraduate & Open)" of the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2011 with our Interactive Floor Tile System after going through 5 rounds of assessment. With the System's outstanding performance, the panel of judges consisting of local ICT experts and professionals also awarded the Grand Award of the same category to us.

The Interactive Floor Tile System is the R&D outcome from Hong Kong RFID's excellent team of electronic and product development engineers. The System is a combination of innovative product design and skillful electronic design. The same system is used for the Hong Kong Exhibition of World Exposition 2010 Shanghai.

Demonstrated in the Urban Best Practices Area in the Hong Kong Exhibition, the Interactive Floor Tile System is able to trace movement of visitors by sensing changes in the electro field. Traditionally, this is achieved by weight detection, which is not possible in this case due to the heavy glass covering. To improve sensibility and reliability, electro field sensors have been used instead. Whenever a visitor passes by, the sensors detect the electro change and the corresponding tiles light up, leaving a lighted trail. The system also produces light effect with different rhythms, brightness, colors and patterns that can be preset to match different themes.

The technology employed in the Interactive Floor Tile System is applicable in other settings such as intelligent home systems and shopping malls. Hong Kong RFID’s research and development team will further explore different applications of it. We hope our success will inspire other technological firms.

Hong Kong RFID’s New Office Grand Opening

The New Office Opening Ceremony  was held on the 4^th of March to celebrate the growth of Hong Kong RFID. Since its establishment in 2004, Hong Kong RFID has expanded at an incredible speed. There was a need to move to a more spacious office to accommodate the increasing number of staff. We were honored to have Mrs. Agnes Mak, MH, JP, the Executive Director of Hong Kong Productivity Council, Mr E. Anthony Tan, the Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Dr. Eden Y Woon, JP, the Vice-President for Institutional Advancement of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology  to be our guests of honor to officiate this important occasion of our company.

The ceremony started with a welcoming speech from our founder and Business Development Director, Mr. Craig Jo. He thanked all the guests for coming to the ceremony and their support after describing the development path of Hong Kong RFID. He was followed by the first guest speaker, Mrs. Agnes Mak, who congratulated the vigorous development of our company. The second guest speaker, Mr. E. Anthony Tan, also addressed Hong Kong RFID’s rapid growth from an incubatee of Hong Kong Science and Technology Park’s Incu-Tech Programme. As the last guest speaker, Dr. Eden Y Woon praised the founders of our company as the role models for HKUST students.

With unanimous applause, the ribbon-cutting and toasting ceremony was conducted, followed by a string quartet performance from the band “Yanice and Friends”. After that came the sharing session of Mr. Mike S.H. Fung, the company’s founder and Operation Director, who shared Hong Kong RFID’ keys to success with the audience. The ceremony ended with blessings from the masters of ceremonies and cheers of the crowd. Guests were then invited to enjoy refreshments in the reception area or go on office tours.

Thanks to the immense support from guests and tremendous effort of our staff, the grand opening ceremony was held successfully. It signifies Hong Kong RFID’s continuous growth in prospect. 

Awarded the Caring Company of 2010/2011 by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service

To inspire corporate social responsibility, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service has introduced the Caring Company Scheme. Under this scheme, our company is honored to be recognized as an organization with excellent corporate citizenship demonstrated in the following areas – caring for the community, the employee and the environment.

In the previous year, our company has been in close partnership with Christian Family Service Centre. Together we co-organized a flag selling day and sold vouchers, which raised more than HKD$800,000 for the community. We have also encouraged staff members to participate in fundraising events and community services launched by ORBIS, The Community Chest and Society for the Welfare of the Autistic Persons to support the underprivileged.

Hong Kong RFID sees every one of its employees as a valuable asset. To show concern for their work-life balance and well-being, we offer paid sick leave, annual leave and family leave. We have set up a caring group to regularly organize social gatherings to foster a stronger bond between our staff.

Hong Kong RFID Ltd is proudly awarded as an outstanding participant of the Intellectual Capital Management Consultancy Programme jointly lauched by the Intellectual Property Department (IPD), the Innovation and Technology Commission and the Trade and Industry Department. The programme was created to help enterprises gain a better understanding of Intellectual Capital Management and utilize a set of management tools to maximize their business potential. With the aid of training materials and consultancy services from the supporting parties, key intellectual capital were identified in the intellectual capital report written upon completion of the programme. The main drivers behind our company's success, which include our human, structural and relational capital, are elaborated in details in the report. It allows stakeholders to have a better understanding of our capibility and future potential.
 
According to IPD, Hong Kong RFID is the first company in the information technology industry to publish an intellectual capital report. As a pioneer in this campaign, our company's effort has been recognized by a certificate awarded by the organizers. It is hoped that more companies will follow our footsteps and pursue intellectual capital management. In the future, we will continue to commit in the advancement of the industry.

Hong Kong RFID Ltd. (HK-RFID) had participated in the Hong Kong’s Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA) of Shanghai World Expo 2010. In order to highlight the theme of “Smart Card‧Smart City‧Smart Life”, radio frequency identification (RFID) applications are demonstracted inside the pavilion.

HK-RFID is one of the main suppliers for the Exhibition; we provide RFID hardware such as readers and chips for the Smart Wristband System. Besides, we design and develop floor tiles for the Interactive Floor Tile System.

To appreciate our unfailing support towards the UBPA Exhibition, we are invited to attend a Thank You Reception organized by Commerce and Economic Development Bureau.

TVB interviewed HK-RFID for the program “通識通通識”

Hong Kong RFID Ltd. is glad to be the guest star in a knowledge sharing TV program “通識通通識” about RFID technology by Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB).

In the program, we introduced different RFID applications in our daily life. In fact, we have a lot of RFID applications around us every day. For example, smart card system in transportation, access control, attendance taking and so on. RFID can also be applied in food management in order to maintain a hygienic environment and high quality food. Sushi disks is an example. In fact, RFID can be found easily around us, we hope the general public especially the youth can understand more about RFID technology through this program.

HKRFID speaking in semniar - “Tech-SME We Stand Ready to Support”

On October 5, a talk named “Tech-SME We Stand Ready to Support” was organized by Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The Operation Director of Hong Kong RFID Ltd., Mr. Mike Fung, was honorably invited to be the guest speaker for sharing his successful application and utilization of the SERAP funding.

Hong Kong RFID Ltd. was an eligible recipient of SERAP funding and utilized the funding to implement efficient and effective corrosion monitoring in buildings using wireless sensor technology. This technological breakthrough overcomes many traditional problems such as false results and unexpected life estimation of sacrificial anode.    

In the talk, Mr. Fung emphasized many benefits of the SERAP funding. It enhances the flexibility of company funding as it directly invests in the projects. Also, SERAP is very cautious throughout the entire application process. In other words, the projects will have a greater possibility of success for the successful applicants.

Last but not least, Mr. Fung shared a few tips for interested parties. Keeping a close contact with ITC managers is critical because they always provide useful advice. In addition, keeping an eye on the trend of the government policies and technology development is another useful way for filing a successful application.

Mr. Fung, representing Hong Kong RFID Ltd., would like to deliver his appreciation towards the effort of ITC and wish luck for all the applicants. 

Flag Selling Day 2010

Hong Kong RFID Ltd. advocates the notion that we should not only take from the society but also contribute to the society. Therefore we have set up our own “Caring Group” in 2009. The aim of this group is to organize and promote various voluntary work activities and social activities as well as improve the office’s caring environment. Fun and meaningful activities like Moonwalker organized by Orbis, Dress Special Day organized by Community Chest and company boat trip were organized by the group since its establishment and all staff is eager to participate in each and every activity.

On July 24, a team of volunteers from Hong Kong RFID Ltd. participated in a flag selling activity at Shatin for the Christian Family Service Center, a non-governmental organization dedicated to provide services for targets in all ages. Although it was a hot sunny day, our staff was wearing a happy smile on their faces to sell the flags. The event was successful and we were able to raise money for the development and operation of the centre.

This is a rewarding experience for both the company and our staff. We would keep participating in various kinds of charity projects in the future!
