Meeting the world’s surging energy demand has become a difficult issue today. Energy efficiency thus becomes a critical way in solving the situation as well as building a low-carbon future. In the oil and fuel industry, most companies are using the barcode system for the process of fuel injection. However, the barcode system has shortcomings that these companies can no longer bear. Not only is the barcode easily damaged, the process of finding the barcode and reading it is time consuming. Not to mention the data collected is often inaccurate, which makes it extremely difficult to manage and monitor the fuel injection process. Before implementation of the EFDS, there is no method for businesses to gather vehicle operation time data in an automated manner and cross reference such data with fuel consumption data from flow meter for efficiency analysis. With the EFDS, all these problems can be solved.

The Operation of EFDS

EFDS integrates advanced active RFID technology and customized hardware design to enhance operation efficiency of the fuel injestion process. With the installation of ID tag on vehicles, operators can identify target vehicles conveniently with the Mobile Handheld Reader for fuel injection. The ES-Box and Operation Timer provides fuel injection time and amount data as well as vehicle operation time data to the Mobile Handheld Reader automatically.  Such data would be loaded to a PC afterwards to generate efficiency reports. Any inefficient use of fuel can be detected in timely manner. The implementation of EFDS, will thus, help the industry to automate the whole process and control oil consumption, which in turn improve overall efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Invited to Seminar In the Oil & Gas Industry

HK-RFID is honored to be invited to a recent seminar organized by one of the most famous global group of petrochemicals and fuel companies to share the latest application and technological developments for utilizing RFID in the fuels/lubricants, engine and vehicle management field with various companies from the construction and fuel industry. One of the highlights of the event is the demonstration of our latest RFID solution - Electronic Fuel Delivery System (EFDS) powered by 2.4GHz active RFID, which is specially designed for the oil and fuel industry to improve business efficiency through automation of the whole operating process.

During the seminar, our representatives have introduced the basic ideas and knowledge behind the system and demonstrated the general operation flow through an interactive approach. Significant positive responses were received. The seminar has achieved great success in bringing and introducing RFID technology into the industry with its inspiring characteristics and functions compared to the old technology (barcode system) used.

At the end of the seminar, audience were impressed by the innovative application and shown great interests in it while stronger bonding between HK-RFID and the oil industry has been found. Electronic Fuel Delivery System - Simple with Multiple Functions

To operate the system, ID-Tags with unique ID and LED light will be installed on vehicles. When operators choose a specific vehicle for oil injection via Mobile Handheld Reader, the respective LED will light up for identification. The ES-Box installed in the oil truck will then record the starting & stopping time and the injection amount of fuel injection. On the other hand, the operation time of each vehicle will be stored in the Operation Timer connected to the fuse box inside the vehicle. All data in the ES-Box and Operation Timer will be automatically downloaded to the Mobile Handheld Reader, which can then be connected to a PC to generate an efficiency report for further analysis purpose. The whole operation flow of the system is simple, easy and automated!

Winning of Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) 2012

Congratulation to Hong Kong RFID Ltd.! Since 2006, it has been the 3^rd year for the company to win the Hong Kong Awards for Industry (HKAI). The awarded system, EFDS, utilizes latest active RFID technology to help significantly improve operating efficiency in the oil industry through automation of the whole fuel injection and recording process. With only several RFID equipment installed - Mobile Handheld Reader, ID tag, Operation Timer and ES-Box; the daily fuel injection operation can become much efficient and convenient. Using the ID tag with LED light for identification of specific vehicles, operators can control the whole process with the Mobile Handheld Reader, which can then automatically download data such as starting & stopping time of fuel injection and injection volume for each vehicle. A receipt and report can also be generated for record and further efficiency analysis. 

By overcoming difficulties of the existing barcode system, such as durability; efficiency, data accuracy and wrong mapping, this new automatic active RFID system will greatly save the time of fuel injection process as well as help monitoring fuel consumption. With such high reliability and innovative design, the system has impressed the judges and is believed to make unprecedented contributions to the industry.

1.      LED Light

A LED light is added to HKRAT-ZT02. Using a RFID reader (either handheld or fixed), operator can call a specific tag to light up the LED on it. This unique feature allows operators to locate a particular asset item from many items that look alike or exactly the same much easier and faster.

2.      Tamperproof Sensor

Tamperproof sensor is another add-on feature which is especially suitable for security-focused applications. This sensor will be triggered if someone wants to remove the tag from the attached asset without permission.

HK-RFID happily announces the addition of a new member to our 2.4GHz active RFID tag series - Tempcorder (model: HKRAT-TT02X). With its external probe feature, more flexibility is available to facilitate more creative usage of active RFID technology in temperature monitoring applications.

Application

 

Tempcorder TT02X can perform stably around metal, liquid and other RF unfriendly environment. With the external temperature probe, wider temperature data could be collected while RF transmission is not affected as the small and slim probe with temperature sensor can reach deep inside a metallic or water-filled box but the active RFID tag can remain uncovered by the metal or water content.

Passive RFID System for Building Service, for Hong Kong Housing Authority

Hong Kong RFID successfully helped Housing Authority on installing over 30000pcs of RFID tags in all public estates for Hong Kong Housing Authority. The project was aimed to monitor the assets and to smooth the maintenance for all types of building service equipment. These equipment cover from all types of water pumps, water tanks, electricity generators, fire alarm systems, lift switch and CCTV systems, etc.

The mount-on-metal RFID tag (HKRUT-G2M6) contains the ID and information associates with the equipment for the maintenance service provider, who can easily use a PDA to read the information inside RFID tag, and then upload the useful maintenance records, such as who, when and what have/have been checked simultaneously. This RFID system will link up with the ERP system for automatic contract renewal, order submission and invoice issuing.

HKRUT-G2M6 is engineered to provide up to 1.2m reading range over concrete and metal object. This ultrasound welded ABS plastic casing, provides water-proof and dust proof protection and backed with a strong 3M VHB adhesive tape. It is suitable for outdoor (such as sunny or rainy situations) and indoor environment (such as oily dusty pump rooms). No battery and no maintenance is needed for this tag, it can last forever as long as the RFID chip inside is functioning (over 50 years).

Not just reducing the tremendous paper work, this system also improved the efficiency for the overall operation. Sometimes, efficient maintenance can help save life, for example, fire telephone link or lift generator set.

How to construct a water proof box for Empress reader and Controller?

Waterproof enclosure is commonly used in outdoor environment. Empress 2.4GHz active reader is very easy to mount on any waterproof enclosure. Here are some tips,

1)      Mark the holes on the metal plate and drill them

2)      The controller (if possible) may use 5V and share the DC inputs with Empress Reader when applicable.

3)      Mark the antenna polarization on antenna and also outside the box for easier maintenance

4)      Use cable glands for external power input and data out

5)      This setup also protects the antenna inside the box, you may also try external directional antenna for easier tuning if necessary.

School Attendance System with 2.4GHz Hussar Card

RFID technology has been applied in attendance system in the recent year. However, there are still some limitations such as the information visualization of RFID tag and short reading coverage. Our least active RFID product HussarTM will help to optimize the school attendance system.

The Operation of the system

RFID School attendance system saves manual paper administration and management work. As it is a web based tracking system, the attendance of students and teachers who carry a HussarTM 2.4 GHz Active RFID Tag (CT02/CT02+) can be easily obtained. Reports about absenteeism and lateness to school could be generated automatically as well. As long as a browser and a real time online screen is present the time, place and photo of student entering a specific room in the school can be easily retrieved with a few clicks.

Smart Card size

RFID tag has been commonly served as an identity card in school attendance system but the size of it restricts the visualization of personal information. The traditional tag is small in size and therefore it may only allow basic personal information. To cover this limitation our company introduces a smart card size active RFID tag and it can be fit to ISO card sticker. Personal information such as photos, address and contact number can be added for identification purpose. This unique design can accommodate the need of more information visualization.

Long and flexible reading zone

The Active reader can be installed at different places in the school. The reading distance can be adjusted from <1meter to 50 meters. School can manipulate a specific reading zone. For example, reader can be installed at school entrance, when teachers and students with tag across the entrance, their attendance can be obtained. Or reader can be installed in classroom to collect the class attendance. Redundant manual checking process can be therefore minimized.

 Multi-tag identification, anti-collision

HussarTM reader can read 100 tags simultaneously without interference with 2.4GHz network. Every tag has a unique tag ID therefore duplication will not exist. The accuracy of the system is very high.

Low power consumption

HussarTM active tag is small with replaceable battery. The battery life is estimated 2 years. With such low power consumption, the operation cost of the system can be thus reduced.

For HussarTM 2.4 GHz active tag CT02+, it shares the similar feature of CT02 but it’s also support NFC RFID technology. It is preferable for school who has already adopted NFC technology.

The adoption of RFID School Attendance system will enhance efficiency in school management and put parents at ease as they can check the time and attendance of their kids conveniently.
